The Summary
When it comes down to it, life can be boiled down to a handful of stories. Making friends, falling in love, working through a challenging situation, choosing your career, having kids, deciding to follow Jesus. The most powerful stories we tell and retell are about defining moments. Moments matter. Stories matter.
At Newport Mesa Church, the heart of our story has always been to love God and love people.
In 1935, we began as The Full Gospel Church in Newport Beach. Services were held in the Allison Building on 22nd Street. Over the past 75 years, God has used us as a defining movement in the history of Orange County. But our story reaches far beyond Orange County-- Newport Mesa Church has impacted the world.
In 1981, we moved into our present facility.
Each week, our campus and facility are used to capacity for children’s ministry, youth programs and an endless river of spiritual formation, equipping, worship and relationship building events. Defining moments in the lives of countless thousands of people have taken place on our campus.
Buildings and facilities are a great resource and a powerful tool. Our current facilities have served us well, but after 30 years of constant demand we must make a significant investment in the enhancement and upgrade of this critical ministry resource.
It is not enough to simply recognize the challenge, we must step up to meet it. With God’s help, we will. We believe that God has uniquely equipped our church to be a catalyst to significantly impact Orange County with the message of Hope.
In the months to come, we will be talking about this defining moment of opportunity in the life of our church. We will refer to it as: The RE Project.
The core essentials of The RE Project are
Renew: To renew our commitment to serve our community and people throughout Orange County.
Respond: To practice courageous faith and invest in the future.
Rebuild: To rebuild existing facilities and create environments for life-change.
This is a mission of significance. We have a whole new world of stories in the future God is preparing for us. This is an opportunity to invest in what matters most– people. For the one who matters most– Jesus Christ.
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

We are grateful for those who came before us and invested in our story. Now, it is our opportunity to impact the future, leave a legacy and create environments that will enable us to be effective for years to come. We are 75 years strong and ready for the future!
The Opportunity
The Newport Mesa Church facilities have served us well, but after 30 years of constant demand and full-capacity use, we must make a significant investment in the enhancement and upgrade of this critical ministry resource. We have the opportunity to continue to create environments and invest in the lives of countless
thousands of people through the renovation of what God has entrusted to our care.
The Goal
To enhance present and future ministry of Newport Mesa Church while raising 4 million dollars for the rebuilding and renovation of our current facility.

The RE Project Q & A
1. How will current ministry be affected during The RE Project?
No doubt The RE Project will require special focus, but we will also remain focused on effective day to day ministry. The heart of Newport Mesa Church is about people loving God and loving people. We will not lose sight of this as we build. Later, during the construction phase there will be temporary displacement and shuffling of meeting venues and times; however, this will be clearly communicated in the months to come.
2. What is the projected cost of The RE Project?
The total cost for The RE Project is estimated to be 4 million dollars. A basic breakdown of costs are: A building and remodeling cost of 3.1 million dollars and another 900,000 for furnishings, fixtures and equipment.
3. Is this the best time to initiate The RE Project given the state of the economy?
Some have referred to the current economic situation as “the new normal”. When considering a project of this scale we want to respond in faith; however, we also want to be faithful in fulfilling our part. Given the state of the economy in recent years, people are far more thoughtful about how they participate as they respond in faith. Other factors that make this a strategic time to initiate The RE Project include lending rates at historic lows and extremely competitive construction costs.
4. What is our financial strategy to complete the project?
During the month of March 2012, we will be initiating a stewardship program to complete the RE Project. The stewardship challenge will be a faith decision individuals and families make to partner together for a period of 3 years. While short-term construction loans may be used to cover immediate costs, it is our goal to have The RE Project paid-in-full by the end of year three.
5. Will my commitment to The RE Project replace my regular giving?
No. This opportunity is in addition to your regular and faithful giving to the ministry of Newport Mesa Church.
6. What if we fall short raising funds for The RE Project?
The RE Project is scalable. What this means is that the project can be completed in phases or scaled to meet budget challenges.
7. What if we exceed our goal in raising funds?
Most likely, excess funds will be used for technology, furnishings, ongoing maintenance and further facility enhancements. What an exciting blessing this would be!
8. When do I make my commitment?
Commitment Sunday will be April 1, 2012. No foolin’.
9. How does The RE Project affect our relationship with Vanguard University?
The leadership of Vanguard University is aware of and supportive of The RE Project. Relationship between Newport Mesa Church and Vanguard University has always been based on “maximizing ‘Kingdom’ resources”. As we move into our future we are excited to affirm our continued partnership.
10. How should I respond as we approach initiating The RE Project?
Pray. Begin to seek God’s leadership and guidance in the months to come as we prepare to respond together.
