Psalm 8

Point: Our work is sacred.

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens.  

²  Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.

³    When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

⁴     what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?

⁵    Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.

⁶    You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet,

⁷    all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field,

⁸    the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

 

⁹    O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Psalm 8

Garden, Grind, Greed

And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife

and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’

cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of

your life; ¹⁸ thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the

plants of the field. ¹⁹  By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return

to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall

return.”

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what

you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on.

And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he

has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy

Glory

 

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor

about your body, what you will put on. For all the nations of the world seek after

these things, and your Father knows that you need them. ³¹ Instead, seek his
