Exodus 20:7
The Name of G_d
You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
Exodus 20:7
- Pure
The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.
Luke 6:45
Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say
only what helps, each word a gift.Don’t grieve God. Don’t break his heart. His
Holy Spirit, moving and breathinging you, is the most intimate part of your life,
making you fit for himself. Don’t take such a gift for granted. Make a clean
break with all cutting, backbiting, profane talk . . . Though some tongues just
love the taste of gossip, those who follow Jesus have better uses for
language than that. Don’t talk dirty or silly. That kind of talk doesn’t fit our
style. Thanksgiving is our dialect.
Ephesians 4:29-31; 5:4
It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke . . .
James 3:5-6
- Powerful
Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 7:21
God, teach me lessons for living so I can stay the course.
Give me insight so I can do what you tell me— my whole life one long, obedient response. Guide me down the road of your commandments; I love traveling this freeway! Give me a bent for your words of wisdom, and not for piling up loot. Divert my eyes from toys and trinkets, invigorate me on the pilgrim way. Affirm your promises to me— promises made to all who fear you. Deflect the harsh words of my critics— but what you say is always so good. See how hungry I am for your counsel; preserve my life through your righteous ways!
Psalm 119:33-41
