It is Royal Family's goal to create positive memories for abused and neglected children by providing a one week summer camping experience.
Royal Family Kids' Camp serves children with a history of abuse, who have been removed from the abusive situation. The children who attend are ages 7 - 11 and are currently living in foster care or group homes.
"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14
The concept of Royal Family Kids' Camp was developed here at Newport in 1985 when Associate Pastor Wayne Tesch grasped the initiative to take abused and neglected children to Pinecrest for a week in the "cathedral of the outdoors".
That first year there were 25 children and very limited camp activities. In year 20, camp has become a very structured program with specific goals of presenting the gospel to these children in a way that is fun and non-threatening. There are numerous activities to keep the kids busy, including over 20 arts and craft type of activity centers, dress-up, fishing, swimming and group games.
One of the keys to our success as a camp has always been the special people who come to camp to share and display the love of God with the children. The impact on the lives of the children can be measured in the changes we see in their demeanor and the fact that previous campers are now coming back to camp to be able to share a similar experience to kids who were like they were and to relate the grace and love of Christ in a meaningful way.
The primary key to our success as a camp is our total dependence upon God to prepare us physically, emotionally and spiritually for the task at hand. Prayer is extremely important and is constant throughout our week of camp and months of preparation.
