He can show you how to honor your father and be an honorable person at the same time. This Sunday morning will be filled with fun games, and an opportunity to connect with other preteens your age where you can tell stories, share ideas, concerns, and prayer requests.

Lesson Overview: Have a Happy Father’s Day

Bible: Genesis Ephesians 6:2

Bottom Line: Honorable people honor fathers.

THE PLACES OF EASTER (Mar 24 – Apr 21)

A four-week series that explores the locations that are important to the Easter Story and what we can learn from them. The fifth week in the series is actually Easter Sunday, and we will not be having 56 but instead, we will be celebrating Easter with our families. There will be three services: 8:00 am, 9:30 am, and 11:30 am.

Bible: Matthew 26:36-46; Luke 22:43, 44

Bottom Line: Praying is our way of communicating with God, and good communication involves taking time to listen instead of just talking.

Bible: Matthew 26:57-68; Luke 22:54; Matthew 27:1, 11-24; Romans 12:19

Bottom Line: It really hurts when people lie about us, but we don’t have to feel alone because Jesus understands.

Bible: Mark 15:16-39; Matthew 27:51; Luke 23:39-43; Galatians 6:2; Psalm 22:18

Bottom Line: Trials are never easy to bear, but Jesus was willing to bear the cross and the shame that came with it.  We have to carry our crosses, too, and we have Him to help us.

Bible: Matthew 28:1-10; Matthew 27:57-66; John 20:6-9; Romans 10:9

Bottom Line: Jesus defeated death and the grave just like He promised, so we can trust Him to keep His promises to us.

Three Service Times: 8:00 am; 9:30 am and 11:30 am

Activities: Water Baptism 10:20 am and 12:20 pm; Egg Hunts & Activities 10:30 am. Bring a friend!

The 5th and 6th graders will be embarking on the 2019 New Year Recalibrate journey with the entire Newport Mesa Church family by taking the 21 Day Prayer Dare. During the four Sundays starting January 6 and ending January 27, the 56ers will learn about prayer and fasting as Jesus taught it. Jesus invited his disciples to “watch” as he prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, then to “pray” as he prayed. What he was teaching in the most desperate time of his human existence will be what the 56ers are going to be learning. They will learn:

  • How to pray, as Jesus did, “take this cup (burden)” from me I cannot bear it.
  • How to pray, as Jesus did, “not my will but yours (God).”
  • What is fasting and how does it help me in prayer and my relationship with God?
  • What are my problems with prayer and how do I pray through my doubts and problems?

Jesus prayed both Take this Cup: Honest and Not my Will: Abandon. What happens when we pray through this tug-of-war of our own souls as Jesus did – honestly and with abandon and surrender to God.

We will consider Jesus’ Garden prayer in Matthew 26:36-46, Mark 14:32-42, Luke 22:39-46 and John 18:11.

Activities for this series will be:

  • Prayer Dare Contest
  • Prayer Dare Games

For More Information:

  • Curriculum based on Elisa Morgan’s book The Prayer Coin. Be sure to watch her 25-minute video.
  • Discover the Word, a 15-minute podcast featured Elisa’s concepts for 10 sessions. A must listen that will surely help you recalibrate for the New Year as you learn to pray both sides of the prayer coin: Honestly and with Abandon, as Jesus did.

Unafraid October 14 – November 4

This 4-week series shows preteens how their faith can help them confront the fears of failure, rejection, sharing your faith, and the future. Each week features slime-themed opening games and activities that your students will LOVE! surveyed 445 students on the topic of “what are your fears?” They found the following about our preteens:

• 66% of teens are afraid of the future or life after graduation

• 40% of teens are afraid of peer pressure or not fitting in with people at school

• 30% of teens are afraid of being bullied or harassed at school or other groups

• 6% of teens are afraid of depression or suicide

Every day, our 56ers are battling fear in their hearts and minds. They need love and guidance from those around them to enable them to confront their fears and allow God to replace them with faith. This series will equip our 56ers with the tools they need to combat fear and learn what the Bible says about it.

Week 3: What Did You Say to Me? – October 28

Bible: 2 Timothy 4:5 But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.

Bottom Line: You can be confident when you share your faith because God is with you.

Week 4: Welcome to Your Future!

Bible: Romans 8:38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

Bottom Line: God’s love allows us to have a future that is free of fear.
